It is always exciting when there is a new brand who have made it their mission to make clothing specifically for breastfeeding parents. It is even better when they are made local, are affordable and have their own distinctive style!
We recently introduced you to Discreet Bowtique so it seemed the perfect time to actually check out their clothes as they are new to the breastfeeding scene!
The Sally Dress
First impressions are the quality and feel of the fabric. The fabric is 96% viscose and 4% elastane and feels so lovely and soft against your skin, and importantly little one’s skin too. The fabric also has a lovely, practical and flattering stretch to it, and for busy mums the dress is machine washable-hurray!
There are no buttons or zips to fiddle with on the dress you simply put it on over your head, easily done with the stretch in the fabric (and the stretch also means there is no need for a large neck hole which could ruin the shape and style of the dress!).
I have to admit I am not always sure of a lift the flap type breastfeeding dress or top but this really doesn’t have that feel. The dress has a layer over the top but it doesn’t just cover the boobs it goes right down over the tummy area. It is well designed as it covers an area lots of mums feel self conscious about!
Underneath the top layer is a vertical slit each boob side with a nice fabric overlap that is extremely neat and well detailed and sits very nicely over your boobs. There are no zips to contend with and it is extremely discrete with the neat slits and the front panel. This design is also great for tandem feeding.
The back has a split back style which is really popular on non breastfeeding clothes too- I am a huge fan of clothes that don’t look like “breastfeeding clothes” so you would wear them when not breastfeeding too- you want to get the wear out your clothes!
The dress is absolutely true to size, no exaggeration, I don’t think it could be more spot on. I am a size 8 and the fit is perfect!
The straight skirt length sits just above my knee (I am 5ft 5) -a nice fun length that can be as easily worn with trainers as it can with boots! A cool length but also practical for chasing and bending down after little ones!
The dress is available in sizes 8-18 and in this grey and also black, navy, purple and turquoise.
This is a dress you feel you could just wear whenever, baby groups, to the shops, baby date, few hours without the little ones….
This dress is handmade in the U.K. supporting local businesses, it is well made, neatly detailed and I really do like the style, at £36 I think this is an excellent buy!
The Susan Dress
The Susan dress is made from the same excellent soft and comfortable fabric as the Sally dress. It has the same nice stretch for being practical for chasing little ones and being flattering too!
The dress is easily slipped on over the head and is again true to size. The dress hangs extremely nicely with the top layer carefully cut to flatter. These designs really have been perfected to make sure all the details work for breastfeeding mums, and not forgetting this is handmade in the UK!
The back is again a split back with the top layer giving discrete breastfeeding. The slits underneath are very neat and and give excellent, easy boob access!
The Susan dress almost has a pencil skirt with a little slit at the back, this dress is a midi length that sits just below the knee (I am 5ft 5), a very stylish length!
This dress looks great being sleeveless and a midi length-great combination that gives a different vibe to the Sally Dress, you could easily have both in your wardrobe as they are available in so many different colours too!
The dress looks fab with trainers, flats for the summer or with a bit of sparkle for dates nights! Again such a versatile dress, and I do think this is excellent value for money-well made, practical and stylish that you will still want to wear when your breastfeeding journey is over too!
